Along the Loire with Robin Kinahan MW

Our President returned for his annual tasting, and first since his retirement after 44 years in the wine industry. As well as bringing some lovely weather, Robin brought along a selection of Loire wines available through the Wine Society.
The institutes kind thanks must go to Alastair and Mildred for contributing the sparkling wine to kick us off for the evening - the Touraine Brut, 2000 was a great way to start.
The Muscadet Sur Lie and Chinon Blanc were followed by three contrasting Sauvignons while Robin explained the difficulties faced by winemakers in the region with regard the vagaries of the region's climate and the new challenges due to global warming and the rising average temperature of the region. We finished off with two very nice Cabernet Francs and as a special treat, a 2002 sweet Vouvray. An excellent prelude to our visit to the Loire next year.
