The Institute was formed in 1979, to encourage and develop an understanding and appreciation of Wines & Spirits throughout Northern Ireland.

An annual programme of Tastings and gourmet evenings is offered to Members and guests, with an emphasis on Quality.  Tutored tastings are conducted by experts working in the field of Wine & Spirit Education, as well as those representing producers from around the world.

Our mission is to increase the appreciation of Wines & Spirits through organized educational events.  Vice Presidents, Alastair Bell and Peter Morris Wilson, are Certified Educators of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust ®. Members wishing to obtain WSET® Qualifications may do so through our in-house courses with  Approved Programme Provider MacQuillan's of Dunluce.

We maintain a strong link with The Institute of Masters of Wine through our President, Robin Kinahan MW.  Many of our speakers are Masters of Wine, including John Atkinson, Richard Bampfield, David Bird, Clive Barlow, Jayne Boyce, Sarah Jane Evans, Lance Foyster, Julia Harding, Maggie McNie, Martin Moran, Dermot Nolan and Michael Palij.

We are always searching for speakers who are able to share their knowledge and experience with our members.  Please contact our Chairman if you would like to be included in a future Programme.

Full Membership is offered to persons holding a WSET® Qualification and Associate Membership is offered to persons demonstrating an interest in developing their interest in Wines & Spirits.  Corporate Membership is offered to organizations and this is an excellent way of introducing various staff members to our tastings.

We welcome new members, and if you would be interested in joining us, please contact our Secretary Sue Holden.
